Elsie’s opened its’ doors for the first time in August 2013 to give the residents of Botley and surrounding areas somewhere new and different to eat and drink. A traditional, family run, cosy tearoom, vintage in style, uniquely set in a beautiful characteristic building with a vaulted ceiling and original beams. The building was originally a stable and all its’ original features have been retained and complimented by beautifully “upcycled” shabby chic furniture serving “proper tea” in pretty china cups and saucers.
Elsie’s serve a light breakfast/brunch and lunch menu complimented by either loose leaf tea or teapigs tea temples and a fantastically smooth, ethically sourced blend of coffee. Homemade cakes, scones and afternoon tea are our speciality. We also cater for our little ones’ as well as gluten free/dairy free diets so everyone can be included!!
We kindly request that only food and drink purchased in the tearoom may be consumed here as we are only small.

Elsie’s is available for hire for private tea parties every day of the week (excluding Saturday’s) where you have sole use of the tearoom for 2 hours from 3.30pm until 5.30pm. On Sunday’s the tearoom is closed to the general public so we can offer either 11.30am until 1.30pm or 3pm until 5.00pm (subject to availability). So whether it is a birthday, baby shower, anniversary, hen-do, or christening, we can cater for a minimum of 14 people and a maximum of 22 people. Pop in the tearoom for our terms and conditions of booking.
We do not take bookings during the day. We are small but cosy and have a table allocation policy, so please come along and we will get you seated as soon as we possibly can if we are busy.
We are unable to allow pushchairs in the tearoom, due to our Hampshire Fire Service risk assessment, however we do provide high chairs, or we can accommodate babies in car chairs as long as they can be tucked under or on top of your table.

This is a great favourite at Elsie’s, just pure indulgence. Served on vintage china tiered plates. Choose from a good selection of freshly prepared sandwich fillings on either white or granary bread, (we usually leave our crusts on but let us know if you would like them removed), warmed fruit or plain scones with clotted cream or butter, served with a fabulous dollop of old fashioned homemade preserve, but again you need to choose which preserve you fancy as we have quite a few.
We also offer a more personalised afternoon cream tea where you can choose any sandwich filling from our main menu of sandwiches subject to an additional charge. All charges are printed on our menus for your information.
If you still have room, you get to choose what slice of cake you would like (sometimes the choice is just too much for some !!). This is all washed down with a pot of loose leaf tea or a choice of a Teapig tea or an Americano coffee, or for those who do not like tea or coffee, we can also offer a choice of fruit juice instead.
Very rarely do customers finish this but don’t worry we provide take away bags if you would like to finish it later !!
We also do a mini afternoon cream tea for those who have a smaller appetite.
Gluten free afternoon cream teas are also available but unfortunately we do have to charge an additional £1.50 per person to cover the very highly priced ingredients. Please note - our gluten free homemade baked products such as scones and cake are made with gluten free ingredients, however, they are made in a kitchen that uses gluten ingredients, so we can not guarantee that they are 100% gluten free.
Please note: If you require any other drinks not listed as "included" in any of our afternoon cream teas, then these will be charged at menu prices.
We have a Little one's afternoon cream tea as well, served on their very own vintage china tiered plate so the whole family can enjoy the experience together. If you need a group photo taking, just ask, we would be happy to do this for you.
All Elsie’s cakes and scones are homemade using superior ingredients. As well as tea time favourites, wherever possible, we like to use seasonal produce in our cakes to make something just a little bit different.
As Elsie’s love cake so much, it is so important for all our customers to enjoy our cake. We cater for people who have a gluten free and dairy free diet; and believe me, you can’t even tell the difference !!
Elsie’s have a great choice of deep fill sandwiches. So many people say they are the best sandwiches around. We love a good sandwich, and we serve ours with crisps and salad garnish. They are not prepared in advance or in large quantities so please bear with us at busy times. We don’t do fast food, we do fantastic food as fast as we can. If there is something that is not listed on the menu, if we have the ingredients, we can probably make it for you, so please feel free to ask.
We also have gluten free bread available too.
At Elsie's, we believe choice is important to our customers and we offer different chutneys, preserves and menu items according to the season. Sometimes the choice is just too much !!
Did you know that 165 million cups of tea are drunk in the UK every day versus 70 million cups of coffee, yet tea usually gets less attention.
Not at Elsie’s, because as well as good old fashioned loose leaf English Breakfast tea, Elsie’s is proud to be a supplier of all Teapigs (excluding Matcha). A fine tea, who only select whole leaf tea and flowers, so no more dusty teabags which creates the perfect cuppa.
Teapigs are 100% natural, and the “Everyday Brew” is Rainforest Alliance Certified ™. Teapigs are also sold in whole foods market including John Lewis food hall and Harvey Nichols. Even Jamie Oliver says “teapigs !! great stuff !!”.
Those fancy journos love teapigs as well such as The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Observer Food Monthly.
Teapigs supports the Noel Orphanage in Gisenyi, Rwanda. The orphanage sits opposite the tea estate from which Teapigs source much of the tea for their signature blend “Everyday Brew”. The orphanage is home to 600 children and Elsie’s is proud to support teapigs with this charity with every box purchased.
At Elsie’s it is also just as important to serve an ethical blend of coffee. We serve fair trade espresso “Crema” blend. Fine, pure Central American Arabica coffees are blended to produce a balanced brew. A touch of acidity, wonderful body and a full satisfying rich finish make this a great blend.
Great tea, great coffee, great place to be !!
